John M. Itamura, M.D. is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in sports
medicine, with a special emphasis on shoulder, elbow and upper extremity trauma.
He received his medical doctorate at the University of Southern California in Los
Angeles, California, after earning a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering
at USC. He stayed on at USC Medical Center and LA County Hospital for his internship
and residency, then went on to a fellowship in the shoulder and elbow surgery at
the W. B. Carrell Memorial Clinic, Dallas, Texas, followed by further fellowship
training in hand and upper extremity at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston,
Massachusetts.
Dr. Itamura is a team physician for the University of Southern California, USC University
Hospital Center for Athletic Medicine, East Los Angeles Community College, and California
State University-Los Angeles. He is active in several professional organizations,
including the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, California Orthopedic Association,
Global Shoulder Society, and American Society of Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons. A
prolific researcher and medical educator, Dr. Itamura has numerous journal publications
and book chapters to his credit, and has given presentations and lectures at a local,
regional and national levels.
